Objectives
- Advance linguistic skills and knowledge to improve the comprehension of selected foreign languages.
- Comprehend specialised translation techniques applied to technical sectors (economics, tourism, law) and how to use the appropriate methodological tools.
- Improve knowledge of the history, culture and society of the countries studied, while using appropriate analytical methods.
- Improve speaking and writing skills with oral presentations or professional documents writing exercises.
- Develop technical skills in the applied disciplines: law, economics, accountancy, management, office automation and IT science.
Skills

- Understand precisely the two languages you studied.
- Speak or write fluently in both languages studied.
- Speak with ease in a foreign language in front of an audience.
- Participate effortlessly in everyday conversations or in a professional context in both languages studied.
- Write professional documents such as commercial correspondence and reports, and synthetising documents.
- Comprehend the modern societies and political, economic and social systems of the countries studied.
- Translate technical texts with all their subtleties from French to a foreign language and vice-versa.
- Use efficiently IT tools and office automation.
- Relate linguistic and cultural competencies to the knowledge learned in applied disciplines (law, computer and IT science, economics, management).
International dimension
During their studies, students will have the opportunity to study abroad through the partnerships of Artois University, including exchange programs such as Erasmus+ or other exchange agreements signed and authorised between the Artois University and its foreign partners.

Students in the ‘International Excellence’ specialisation in third year must find an internship abroad.
Additional information
- Students work in small groups so that the teachers can give personalised feedback and better support. During their first year, students focus on learning the basics. In their second year, they have to choose a specialisation.
- During classes and on their own, students work on defining their orientation goals and discover the professional world.
- An internship is mandatory for third-year students, and optional for second-years, so that students can be efficiently prepared to enter the professional world.
- The course is taught by university lecturers and researchers, along with external professionals in partnership with the university, such as local authorities, businesses, associations or public agencies.
- The students have the opportunity to study abroad for one semester up to one year through various exchange programs and partnerships or dual degrees.
- Students in the ‘International Excellence’ specialisation must find an internship abroad.

Program
- The students must choose two languages to study during this course. The options are English/German, English/Spanish, or English/Chinese.
- English, German and Spanish are taught at a B2 level while Chinese starts at beginner level in the first year.
- From the first semester to the sixth one, the core classes are structured around two axes:
- - ‘Language and culture’: civilisation, general culture, grammar, specialised translation, written and oral expression.
- ‘Applied disciplines’: law, economics, accountancy, management, computer science, office automation.
- In the second year, in addition to the core course, students have to choose a specialisation to study until their last year. They can choose between three options: ‘International Trade and Exchanges’, ‘Public sector and Civil service’ or ‘International Excellence’ during which an internship abroad is mandatory.
- Depending on the specialisation, this bachelor’s degree can lead to careers in teaching or civil service after entrance exams.

- A Master’s degree in ‘Arts, Humanities, and Languages’ specialty ‘Applied Foreign Languages’.
- A Master's degree in ‘Languages and International Management’ which prepares students for international trade, particularly in sales and negotiation, through proficiency in three foreign languages and an understanding of the societies within their linguistic regions and thanks to the multidisciplinary dimension of the teachings (law, management, logistics, marketing, IT science, intercultural mediation, sales).
- The online Master’s degree in ‘Teaching Chinese as Foreign Language / Second Language’ is aimed at students wishing to teach Chinese in schools or in enterprises in France or in foreign countries. Students are taught high-quality linguistic and pedagogical skills to teach Chinese as a second language.
- A Master’s degree in ‘Teaching and Education’ that can only be entered after passing a teaching entrance exam.
