Objectives

  • The LLCER "CITIES" Master’s degree offers a unique course based on disciplinary lectures aiming at strengthening linguistics and foreign literature and civilisation (in English, Spanish or Chinese) and supported by classes taught by working professionals of IT and computer science, and of communication. These professional classes aim at developing students’ skills in scientific and cultural outreach.
  • Professional skills’ development is also guaranteed by the methodological focus on theory and practice with two internships: 6 weeks in the 1st year and 8 weeks in the 2nd year. 
  • In addition to the lectures and classes, students must attend to scientific or cultural demonstrations (symposia, conferences or seminars) in order to prepare the redaction and presentation of a project depending on their subprogram: an essay of research for the ‘Research’ specialisation, and a cultural project for the ‘Event Management’ specialisation.
  • This degree is aimed at students wishing to pursue a career in education and research, but also students interested in cultural and event management.

  • Apply acquired cultural and linguistic skills in relation to highly specialised knowledge and competencies in language, linguistics, literature and civilisation.
  • Use IT tools to translate documents and analyse translations, to create contents and convey or share specific knowledge along with cultural competencies.
  • Develop the right methodology for collecting, organising, classifying, and referencing.
  • Be able to communicate in order to convey educational, scientific, or cultural information.
  • Conceive, design and develop from beginning to end a research or cultural project.

  • During their studies, students will have the opportunity to study abroad through the partnerships of Artois University, including exchange programs such as Erasmus+ or other exchange agreements signed and authorised between the Artois University and its foreign partners.

Additional information

  • Throughout the two years of the course, students receive are personalised support by their academic supervisor for their research or cultural project.
  • In the ‘Research’ specialisation, students are encouraged to attend to the scientific conferences organised by the “Textes et Cultures” research team, composed of professors and researchers who are part of the teaching staff. For the ‘Event Management’ discipline, students are to connect with the cultural institutions existing in the Hauts-de-France region.
  • Students will be encouraged to work for the creation and organisation of cultural festivals alongside the teams of researchers at Artois University, in relation with cultural specialists and regional tourism professionals.

Access conditions

  • This course is open to people with a bachelor-level education or equivalent.
  • The majority of courses offered at Artois University are taught in French, although there are a certain number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses with English options. A good understanding of the French language (at least B1 Level) is therefore necessary in most cases.

Professional insertion

  • A Master’s degree guarantee five years of higher education within the European framework, which is a requirement for some entrance examinations.
  • Depending on the grade obtained at the degree’s validation, students can continue their studies in a doctorate or PHD program for three more years under the tutelage of a thesis supervisor.
  • Furthermore, the ‘Event Management’ specialisation prepares students for careers in event management or the cultural sector.
